Which image format should you pick?

What to know before you convert
Your browser opens the picture and saves it again in the format you choose. Converting to PNG loses nothing. Converting to JPG or WebP uses lossy compression at a high quality setting, which most people can't tell apart from the original. Going from JPG back to PNG can't restore detail that was already lost.
Transparent areas turn white when you pick JPG, since JPG has no transparency. WebP output works in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. Safari can open WebP but can't create it from a web page, so choose PNG or JPG there.
