To blur part of a photo, draw a box over the area, choose Blur or Pixelate, adjust the strength, and download the edited picture. Use it for faces, license plates, and addresses. It runs in your browser.
When do you need to hide part of a photo?
- Faces of people who didn't agree to appear online.
- License plates, house numbers, and street signs.
- Names, addresses, and account numbers in a screenshot.
- Anything in the background you'd rather not share.
How to blur part of an image
- Click Select File, or drag your image into the drop zone.
- Choose Blur or Pixelate, then drag a box over the area. Draw as many boxes as you like.
- Adjust the strength. Use Undo, Reset, or Whole image if needed, then click Download.
Blur or pixelate, and how strong?
Blur softens the area. Pixelate turns it into large blocks, which hides more detail. Raise the strength for small or sharp details. A lightly blurred face can still be recognizable.
Be careful with anything sensitive. Blurring makes text and faces hard to read, but it isn't a guaranteed way to hide information, especially at low strength. For a password, an ID number, or a private document, cover the area completely, for example by cropping it out with Crop Image.
Tips
- The saved file keeps the same format as your upload, so a JPG stays a JPG.
- Also check the hidden data in the file. Remove location and camera details with Remove EXIF Data.
- Resize a large photo first with Image Resizer if your device is slow.
For choosing formats, see our image format guide.
How to blur a license plate or address the right way
Draw the box a little larger than the thing you want to hide, since a tight box can leave the edge of a letter showing. Choose Pixelate for text and numbers, and raise the strength until nothing is readable. Then zoom in on the result and look for anything you can still make out.
If the photo will be posted online, also clear its hidden location data with Remove EXIF Data, because a blurred plate doesn't help if the file still carries your home address.
Frequently asked questions
How do I blur a face in a photo?
Draw a box over the face, choose Blur or Pixelate, raise the strength until the face is hard to recognize, and download the result.
Is blur or pixelate better?
Pixelate hides more detail. Blur looks smoother. For faces and plates, a strong pixelate is the safer choice.
Is blurring a secure way to hide information?
Not always. Low strength can leave details readable. For sensitive data, cover the area completely.
Can I blur more than one area?
Yes. Draw as many boxes as you need, and use Undo to remove the last one.
Does it change the rest of the photo?
No. Only the boxed areas change.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser.
