To remove EXIF data from a photo, drop it in and click Remove Metadata. You see what the photo reveals, such as GPS location, camera model, and date, then download a clean copy. It runs in your browser.
What is EXIF data?
EXIF is information your camera or phone tucks inside a photo file. It can include the exact GPS location, the date and time, the camera or phone model, and the software used. Photos may also carry other metadata, such as XMP, IPTC, and a color profile.
Many social sites remove some of it when you upload, but not all sites do, and emailed or shared files usually keep everything. A photo taken at home can show your address.
Why remove metadata before sharing?
- Selling something online, without revealing where you live.
- Posting a photo of your kids, house, or car.
- Sending pictures to a stranger, a landlord, or a customer.
- Publishing images from a job where location should stay private.
How to remove EXIF data
- Click Select File, or drag a photo into the drop zone. JPG, PNG, and WebP work.
- Review what was found, including a warning if GPS location is present.
- Click Remove Metadata, compare the before and after panels, then click Download.
How the cleaning works
The photo is redrawn onto a fresh canvas and saved again, which leaves the hidden data behind. JPG and WebP are saved at 95 percent quality, and PNG is saved losslessly. The color profile that browsers add is removed too. The picture looks the same, and the orientation is applied so it isn't rotated.
If a file has no metadata, the tool tells you so. If it isn't a real image, it says that instead of claiming the file is clean. Related privacy jobs: Blur or Pixelate Part of a Photo, or clear the hidden details of a document with the PDF Metadata Editor.
Frequently asked questions
How do I remove location data from a photo?
Drop the photo in, click Remove Metadata, and download the clean copy. The GPS coordinates aren't included.
What does EXIF data include?
Commonly GPS location, date and time, camera or phone model, and the software used. Some photos also contain other metadata.
Will the picture look different?
No. It looks the same, saved at high quality, with the correct orientation.
Does it remove data from PNG and WebP too?
Yes. JPG, PNG, and WebP are supported.
Do social media sites already strip EXIF data?
Some do, and some don't. Emailed or shared files usually keep everything, so cleaning the file yourself is safer.
Is my photo uploaded?
