To use this free PDF editor, open your file, pick a tool, and click on the page: type text, drag a box to highlight or white out, draw a signature, or add an image. Then click Save PDF and download. Everything runs in your browser, so the file isn't uploaded.
What can you do with this PDF editor?
- Fill in a form that has no fillable fields by typing on top of it.
- Sign a contract or permission slip by drawing your signature, or add a photo of it as an image.
- Highlight the parts of a document someone needs to read.
- Cover a typo or an old date with Whiteout, then type the correct text over it.
- Add a logo, a stamp, or a scanned signature anywhere on a page.
It adds things on top of your pages. It can't rewrite the text that's already in the PDF, because a PDF stores finished pages, not editable paragraphs. For that kind of change, edit the original document and export it again.
How to edit a PDF online
- Click Select File, or drag your PDF into the drop zone. Every page appears below the toolbar.
- Pick a tool. Text: click where you want to type. Whiteout or Highlight: drag a box. Draw: draw with your mouse, trackpad, or finger. Image: choose a picture to place on the page.
- Use Select to move or resize what you added, Undo to step back, and Delete to remove the selected item.
- Click Save PDF, check the file size, then click Download.
Whiteout hides text, but it doesn't remove it
Whiteout draws a white box over part of the page. The page looks clean, but the text underneath is still inside the file. Someone can select it, copy it, or find it with search.
So don't use Whiteout to hide private details like account numbers before you share a file. That needs real redaction, which deletes the content itself. If you only need a picture of the page, you can save the edited PDF as images with PDF to JPG, which keeps only what's visible.
Text, fonts, and signatures
- Text uses Helvetica in sizes from 8 to 48 points, in any color. It covers English and most Western European languages. Characters outside that set, such as emoji or Chinese, can't be saved, and the editor tells you which ones.
- To change the size or color of text you already added, select it and pick a new value.
- For a signature, Draw with a pen width of 2 or 3 looks most natural. A photo of your signature on white paper works too: add it with Image and shrink it to fit.
- Rotated pages work as expected. What you add stays upright the way you see it on screen.
Tips and common problems
- The PDF won't open. It may need a password. If it opens elsewhere but blocks editing, remove the restrictions with Unlock PDF first.
- Your text doesn't line up with a form's blank line. Select it and drag the small handle beside it to nudge it into place.
- The saved file is bigger than the original. Images you add are stored at full size, so use a smaller picture or shrink the result with Compress PDF.
- You need a page number or watermark on every page. Those tools do it in one step instead of by hand.
Frequently asked questions
Is this PDF editor really free?
Yes. There's no sign-up, no page limit, and no watermark added to your file.
Can I edit the existing text in a PDF?
No. This editor adds text, highlights, drawings, and images on top of the page. To change a word that's already there, cover it with Whiteout and type the new word over it, or edit the original document and export a new PDF.
How do I sign a PDF?
Choose Draw and write your signature with your mouse, trackpad, or finger. Or choose Image and add a photo of your signature. Move it into place with Select, then save.
Does Whiteout remove information from the PDF?
No. It covers the content visually, but the text underneath stays in the file and can still be copied or searched. Don't rely on it to hide private information.
Can I fill out a PDF form with this?
Yes, by typing on top of the form wherever you need to. It works on scanned forms and on forms without fillable fields.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The pages are shown and saved in your browser, on your own device, so the file never reaches a server.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. You can tap to add text, drag to highlight, and draw a signature with your finger. Long documents are easier to work on with a bigger screen.
