Drop Your Image Here

To resize an image, enter the width and height you want in pixels and click Resize. Keep Aspect Ratio stops the picture from stretching. It runs in your browser, so the image isn't uploaded.

When do you need an exact image size?

  • A profile photo, banner, or product image with set dimensions.
  • An upload form that rejects anything too big.
  • A picture that has to fit a slide, a template, or a print size.
  • Making a huge photo small enough to share quickly.

How to resize an image

  1. Click Select File, or drag your image into the drop zone. Its current size loads automatically.
  2. Type a new width or height. With Keep Aspect Ratio on, the other number updates for you.
  3. Click Resize, then Download.

Aspect ratio, enlarging, and file size

Keep Aspect Ratio locks the proportions. Turn it off only if you want to stretch or squash the picture on purpose, for example to match a fixed banner shape.

Making an image smaller keeps it sharp. Making it larger can't add detail that isn't there, so it looks softer. Smaller dimensions usually also mean a smaller file. If you only want a lighter file at the same size, use Image Compressor.

Tips and common problems

  • The framing is wrong after resizing. Crop first with Crop Image, then resize.
  • You need a square. Crop to 1:1, then set both sides the same.
  • The file is still large. Compress it, or change the format with Image Converter.
  • You need a favicon set. Use the Favicon Generator.

Picking a size that makes sense

For a full-width hero image on a website, around 1920 pixels wide is plenty. For images inside an article, 800 to 1200 pixels is usually enough. Photos you'll email or post in chat can be smaller still, and a thumbnail rarely needs more than a few hundred pixels.

Resize a big photo down once, from the original, rather than shrinking the same file over and over. Each save of a JPG costs a little quality.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize an image to exact pixels?

Upload the picture, type the width and height, and click Resize. Turn off Keep Aspect Ratio if you need both numbers exactly, even if it distorts the image.

What does Keep Aspect Ratio do?

It keeps the same proportions, so changing the width updates the height automatically and the image doesn't look stretched.

Can I make an image bigger?

Yes, but it will look softer, because no new detail is created when enlarging.

Does resizing reduce file size?

Usually, since fewer pixels means less data. For more savings, run the result through Image Compressor.

Will resizing hurt quality?

Shrinking keeps a picture sharp. Enlarging softens it.

Is my image uploaded?

No. Resizing happens in your browser and the image never leaves your device.
