To make a favicon, upload one square-ish logo and click Generate Favicons. You get a real favicon.ico plus every PNG size browsers and phones ask for, bundled in a ZIP with the HTML code to paste in. It runs in your browser.
What is a favicon, and why so many sizes?
A favicon is the small icon in a browser tab, a bookmark, and search results next to your site name. Different devices ask for different sizes, and stretching one small image looks blurry.
- 16, 32, and 48 pixels for browser tabs, bookmarks, and Windows.
- 180 pixels for the iPhone and iPad home screen (apple-touch-icon).
- 192 and 512 pixels for Android and installed web apps.
How to create a favicon
- Click Select File, or drag your logo into the drop zone.
- Click Generate Favicons. The tool center-crops your image to a square and resizes it to every size.
- Download the files, or the ZIP with everything, and copy the HTML snippet shown.
What you get, and where it goes
The favicon.ico is a real multi-size ICO file holding the 16, 32, and 48 pixel versions. The larger sizes come as PNG files, including apple-touch-icon.png. Put them in the root folder of your website, the same place as your homepage, then paste the provided lines into the head of your pages.
The snippet also links a site.webmanifest file. You'll need to create that yourself if your site doesn't already have one.
Tips for a good favicon
- Keep it simple. At 16 pixels, detail disappears. Bold shapes, initials, and simple logos read best.
- Center your logo. The image is cropped to a square from the middle.
- Clean up a busy image first with Crop Image, or make a round icon with Circle Crop Image.
- Have a PNG logo you'd like as a scalable file? Try PNG to SVG.
