To make a meme, upload an image, type your top and bottom text, and download it. The text uses classic white Impact-style letters with a black outline. It runs in your browser, with no watermark and no sign-up.

How do you make a meme from a photo?

  1. Click Select File, or drag an image into the drop zone. Any photo or screenshot works.
  2. Type your top text and bottom text. Adjust the size, and change the text or outline color if you like.
  3. Choose PNG or JPG, then click Download Meme.

What makes the classic meme look

The style is big white capital letters with a thick black outline, at the top and bottom of the picture. It stays readable on almost any background, which is why it became the standard.

  • Keep the text short. Two lines at most on each side works best.
  • Long text shrinks to fit, so shorter is easier to read.
  • Pick an image with clear space at the top and bottom.

The font and the output

The tool uses Impact if your device has it, and a similar bold font otherwise, so it looks right on any computer. The text wraps and scales to fit the width. Download as PNG for the best quality, or JPG for a smaller file.

Nothing is added to your image except your text. There's no watermark and no logo.

Writing text that works

  • Keep it short. A few words on top and a punchline on the bottom beats a paragraph.
  • Use capital letters, since that's the classic style and it's easier to read from a distance.
  • Choose a picture with calm areas at the top and bottom, so the text doesn't fight the background.
  • Crop to a square first if you're posting to a feed.

Frequently asked questions

Does the meme generator add a watermark?

No. Your image is exported with only your text on it.

Which font does it use?

Impact when your device has it, or a similar bold font if not.

Can I use a GIF or a screenshot?

Screenshots and photos work. A GIF is used as a still image.

What's the best format to save?

PNG for the best quality, JPG for a smaller file.

Can I change the text color?

Yes. You can set the fill color and the outline color.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The meme is made in your browser.

Can I put text in the middle of the picture?

Not with this tool. It places text at the top and bottom, which is the classic meme layout. For text anywhere else, use a photo editor.

What happens if my text is very long?

Long lines wrap onto more lines and the letters shrink to fit the width. That still works, but short text is easier to read, so trim it if you can.

Why Is My Converted JPG Bigger Than the Original PNG?
