To add a watermark to a PDF, type your text, choose size, color, opacity, and position, and click Add Watermark. The same mark is stamped on every page. It runs in your browser, so the document is never uploaded.
When should you watermark a PDF?
- Marking a contract or proposal as CONFIDENTIAL before you share it.
- Stamping DRAFT on a document that is still being reviewed.
- Labeling a sample or preview so no one mistakes it for the final file.
- Putting your name or company on a document you send out.
How to add a watermark to a PDF
- Click Select File, or drag your PDF into the drop zone.
- Type the watermark text, then set the size, opacity, and color. About 30 to 50 percent opacity stays readable without covering the page.
- Pick a position, or choose Tile to repeat the text across the page. Click Add Watermark, then Download.
How the watermark is applied
The text is drawn onto every page as real text on top of your content, and the pages underneath aren't changed. Position choices are the four corners and the center, plus Tile, which repeats the text diagonally across the whole page.
A single corner mark is easy to crop or cover. Tile is much harder to remove without damaging the page. Keep in mind that a text watermark discourages reuse but can't stop someone determined.
Limits and tips
- Text only. There's no logo or image watermark. For a photo, see Add Watermark to Image.
- Every page gets the mark. To skip some pages, split the file with Split PDF, watermark the pages you want, and join them with Merge PDF.
- Pair it with page numbers using PDF Page Numbers for a finished, professional file.
- Once saved, the watermark is part of the page and can't be removed automatically, so keep the original.
Frequently asked questions
How do I put CONFIDENTIAL or DRAFT on a PDF?
Type the word as your watermark text, pick Center or Tile, lower the opacity a little, and click Add Watermark. Then download the stamped PDF.
Does the watermark go on every page?
Yes, the same text, style, and position are applied to all pages.
Will it change my original content?
No. The watermark is added on top of each page, and the original text and images are left as they were.
Can I use an image or logo instead of text?
Not here. This tool is for text watermarks such as confidential, draft, or a company name.
Can the watermark be removed later?
Not automatically. It becomes part of the saved page, so keep an unmarked copy of the original.
Is the PDF uploaded when I add a watermark?
No. The stamping happens in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
