Why compress an image?
Photos straight from a phone are often 4 to 8 MB, far more than any email, form, or web page needs.

How to compress an image
- Click Select File, or drag your image into the drop zone.
- Click Compress and check the before and after size.
- Drag the compare slider. If you want it smaller, change Quality or Colors, or set a Max size, then click Apply. Click Download when you're happy.
What each setting does
- Quality applies to JPG and WebP. Lower numbers give smaller files. Around 80 is a good balance.
- Colors applies to PNG. The tool reduces the color palette, which shrinks screenshots and graphics. 128 is a good start, and fewer colors means a smaller file.
- Max size resizes very large images, for example to 1920 pixels on the long side, which cuts the size a lot. Choose Original size to keep the dimensions.
The image keeps its type. PNG stays PNG, WebP stays WebP, and everything else is saved as JPG.
Tips and common problems
- A PNG barely shrinks. PNG is lossless, so screenshots don't shrink like photos. Try fewer Colors, or convert to JPG first with PNG to JPG.
- The result looks soft. Raise Quality or Max size. Compare with the slider before downloading.
- You need an exact size in pixels. Use Image Resizer.
- You need a smaller PDF instead. Try Compress PDF.
